FARAH CITY (SW) – The security forces have managed to push Taliban militants out of Anar Dara district center, but the insurgents remain present in the district.
Muhibullah Muhib, spokesman for the police, said the security forces have taken back control of district administrative compound as well as the police headquarters. He added earlier the forces went on a strategic retreat to the army’s compound two kilometers outside district center.
He said a full-blown operation supported by air power has been launched to retake the district. Muhib confirmed the insurgents briefly took over the district center, including the army recruitment center following coordinated assaults on Friday.
The spokesman said arrival of the additional troops pushed the militants back.
Member of the provincial council, Dadullah Qaneh, confirmed that the Taliban have sustained heavy losses in this attack.
The Ministry of Defense said in a statement that 85 Taliban militants have been killed in Farah.
