Deadly fighting flares-up in Kunar

ASADABAD (SW): Fighting between the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and the Taliban militants have flared-up in Kunar province, which has caused multiple casualties.

Latest from this eastern province suggest at least 19 people, including two civilians have lost thier lives in these clashes. Locals told Salam Watandar that some mortars hit different parts of the provincial capital Asadabad that caused casualties. Ghani Mosmim, spokesman for the provincial governor told Salam Watandar two civilians died as one of the mortars hit a centre for the disabled persons in the city. He added that the mortars hit the city at around 10 am in the morning.

The governor’s spokesman said that the Taliban militants attacked a number of security check posts in the Dangaam distirct. “This morning, the armed Taliban attacked the security check posts in the Dangaam district but the attacks were thwarted by our force. 15 armed Taliban are killed and many more are wounded in calshes. Also, 2 security forces' men have lost their lives and four others are wounded”, he added.

Samim stated the fighting has now ended, and fresh troops have been sent to the area. The locals from the area however, told Salam Watandar that fighting is still underway in the district.
