KABUL (SW) – Second Vice President, Mohammad Sarwar Danish on Friday urged the Independent Election Commission to announce results for the presidential polls without further delay.

Addressing a gathering in Kabul, VP Danish also urged the presidential candidates to respect and accept the outcome of the polls. He alleged that a number of electoral teams have strived to cause impediments in the process. Danish said these hurdles held the peoples’ vote ‘hostage for two months’.

At this moot, VP Danish also stressed upon the need to ensure that the peace process is led and owned by the Afghans. He added the gains of the past 19 years as well as the rights of citizens and freedom of speech shall not be sacrificed in the peace talks with the Taliban.

This comes as the Independent Election Commission has hinted to announce preliminary results of the presidential polls next week.
