JALALABAD (SW): In a fierce fighting between Taliban and Daesh over the past 4 days, Daesh has successfully captured a vast area previously under the Taliban’s control.
A local source has said that nearly 600 Taliban fighters were engaged in the fighting while Daesh called on its fighters from Achin, Shinwar and Kot districts to come and fight the Taliban.
Attaullah Khogyani, Spokesman for Nangarhar Governor, told Salam Watandar that 11 Taliban fighters were killed and 19 more were injured during the fighting.
On the other side, 5 fighters from Daesh group were killed and two more were injured.
Although the fighting between Taliban and Daesh has entered its fourth day, the government forces have yet to enter the fighting arena.
Khogyani said that Afghanistan government would benefit from fighting between Taliban and Daesh and would take a swift action to clear off both sides.
Khogyani added that currently there has been an operation carried out by government forces in Achin and Shinwar districts, which would be expanded to Chaparhar district soon.
One of the residents in Chaparhar district, who did not wish to be named, told Salam Watandar that those who have been caught in the crossfire are at the worst situation as shops are closed, roads are empty and agricultural activities have been suspended.
It is worth mentioning that Tora Bora area in Nangarhar is a place from where Osama Bin Laden, Al-Qaeda leader, conducted fighting against the coalition forces for several years.
There have been assumptions that if Daesh dominated Tora Bora and Spinghar mountains, it would create a huge threat to Afghanistan’s stability.
