KABUL (SW): The De Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) announced on Tuesday that this power utility aims to increase the tariff to address the losses sustained lately.
Qudratullah Dilawari, Director of the DABS told a press conference here that the current tariff was set earlier this year when the US dollar stood at afn 57.
He added that currently the greenback was trading at near afn 70 that has caused a phenomenal loss upon the power utility. “Our responsibilities are limited, we do have a fixed budget but the rest of the expenses need to be met via the electricity bills”, he said.
Few months back, DABS cited similar reason for an increase in the power tariff.
He noted the power supply from Uzbekistan remained suspended for the past 28 days that forced DABS to utilize other resources, which ultimately cost it some $ 2.5 million.
Vital to note that insecurity led to the destruction of some power transmission towers in the northern Baghlan province that deprived Kabul of the electricity coming from the Central Asia.
