
KABUL (SW) – At least two American soldiers were killed in Afghanistan on Wednesday, an official statement confirmed.
"In accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the names of the service members killed in action are being withheld until 24 hours after notification of next of kin is complete," said the statement by NATO Resolute Support mission.
The Taliban on Thursday claimed responsibility for killing the two U.S. soldiers Faryab province. The group’s spokesman Zabihullah Mujahed said in a social media post that a join US – Afghan security operation in Faryab’s Almat district was thwarted last night killing 4 Americans and 6 local security forces.
With this, the number of U.S. soldiers killed in Afghanistan this year has surged to 16.
