COVID-19 – Humanitarian catastrophe might occur in Baghlan

04/04/2020

PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – Sources in Baghlan's public health department warn the novel coronavirus can spread and infect people on large scale here.

The sources, who did not want to be named, told Salam Watandar that if the residents of the province did not follow the health advice and did not take quarantine measures seriously, a humanitarian catastrophe would occur in the province.

Local officials in Baghlan province imposed a curfew in Pul-e-Khumri on Thursday last week to prevent the spread of the coronavirus in the province.

Sources in Baghlan's health department accuse the province's police and municipality of failing to cooperate with the department in preventing public gatherings. The sources added that a number of Baghlan government officials may also be infected with the virus.

They urged the government to establish a dedicated facility for COVID-19 patients here. So far, two positive coronavirus cases have been reported in Baghlan province.

Nationwide, health officials confirmed the total cases have reached to 299.
