FAIZ ABAD (SW): A Wolesi Jirga (lower house) fact-finding commission has claimed massive corruption exists in the distribution of food ration to policemen in Badakhshan province.
Nazefa Zaki, head of the commission, visited the province, and pronounced the state of affairs related to food ration as very bad. She said this has forced many policemen in faraway remote areas and in various districts to buy food for them from their own pockets.
She said the invoices are made for first-grade rice while in reality the rice meant for supply literally stank.
The commission has reported that many policemen on the frontlines have also complained about poor quality of food.
Abdul Khalique Aqsaey, police chief for the province, has acknowledged that some problems exist in this regard, and food items are often bought on loan. He lamented that the supply takes up to three months, and procurement contracts are often delayed. The police chief said most of the contracts are inked in the capital Kabul.
The WJ commission claimed it has obtained documents about corruption in this regard, and would soon share it with the relevant government officials.
