KABUL (SW): Coordination, preparation and consultation process for the upcoming RECCA (Regional Economic Cooperation Conference on Afghanistan) kicked-off in Kabul on Wednesday.
In this regard, a meeting was held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Chaired by Deputy Foreign Minister Hekmat Khalil Karzai. In this meeting that was attended by Deputy Ministers of various Ministries and independent entities including public and private sectors, Khalil Karzai underlined the significance of RECCA VI.
“RECCA is an important regional economic cooperation which is lead, focused and owned by Afghanistan”, he said.
The 6th RECCA is due to be held on September 3rd and 4th with the participation of Foreign or Economic/ Development or Commerce of about 70 counties and regional and international organizations in Kabul.
The conference is themed as “The Silk Road through Afghanistan” in line with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani’s vision to revive the ancient Silk Road and turn Afghanistan into a hub between South Asia and Central Asia.
The RECCA and the Istanbul-Heart of Asia processes, which were initiated in 2005 and 2011 respectively are complementary processes, because RECCA is centered on regional economic cooperation and Istanbul-Heart of Asia process is focused on political-security cooperation, generally aiming for trust building among the regional countries, MoFA said.
Later today, Wahidullah Waisi, the Economic Cooperation Director at the MoFA shed light on the preparations by the Ministry for RECCA VI. The conference would also have round table discussion on Energy and Natural Resources, Railways and Roads, Regional Trade and Transportation (Transit) Expansion, and Economic Services in the region, including strengthening private sector, investment, business opportunities, telecommunication, employment and labor, professional educations, and countering disaster.
