03/09/2018

KABUL (SW) – A latest study by the Afghan Women Regional Network noted on Monday the numbers of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) soared to 1.2 million.

The study cited climate change among the main reasons besides the ragging insecurity and poverty for the displacement. It added women and children are the most vulnerable among the IDPs.

Abdullah Abdullah, chief executive officer of the National Unity Government, said drought has added to the number of IDPs and their problems.

Humira Saqib, member of the AWRN, said on the occasion the displaced women are faced with health issues besides physical and sexual violence. She said in some instances, the internally displaced women are deprived of basic services and food.

The AWRN report lamented that the relevant quarters have not taken care of IDPs forced to flee home due to climate change.
