FARAH CITY (SW): Local officials in southwestern Farah province have confirmed that the 11-day fighting between the security forces and the Taliban rebels loyal to Mullah Haibatullah, ended on Wednesday.

Najeebullah Najeebi, the spokesperson for the Afghan National Army (ANA)’s 207-Zafar Corps has said that during these clashes, 3 Taliban commanders and their 54 fighters have been killed, and 67 more have been wounded.

The local officials in Farah province said that 11 days ago, as many as 800 Taliban fighters attacked Posht Rod district from various directions in a bid to overrun the district.

The ANA spokesman stated that as the battle started to flare up in Dogen, Chik and Charmas villages, commandoes of the ANA were dropped from air by parachutes, and they pushed the rebels back.

Abdul Rauf Rahmani, the spokesperson for the ANA in Farah said that during the clashes, 3 ANA men have lost their lives and 8 more have been wounded.

The Taliban have not commented on the incident yet.

This comes at a time when a number of members at Farah Provincial Council recently expressed deep concerns regarding the security situation in the province, saying that the security forces stationed in the province are not well-equipped to ensure the security in Farah.
