Clashes between Jamiat and Junbish supporters pronounced family feud

28/03/2017

MAIMANA (SW): The Fact Finding Board of Presidential Palace (Arg) has concluded that the clash between supporters of Jamiat-e-Islami party and Junbish-e-Milli Islami party ten days ago in Faryab province was a criminal matter not a political issue.

The board consisted of Mohammadullah Batash, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Abdul Sattar Murad, the Minister of Economy, and two high ranking generals of the Ministry of Defense who visited Faryab province last week to find facts about the clashes between Jamiat and Junbish. On Tuesday, the board announced their finding in a press conference in Faryab.

The government assigned board told the presser that by interviewing and visiting the provincial council, elders’ council, civil society activists, human rights activists and a number of tribal leaders of the province, it found that the 19th March clash between Jamiat and Junbish supporters in Damqol area of the capital of the province – which left 4 dead and 10 injured, was due to old family feuds, and was a criminal act rather than a political issue.

Mohammadullah Batash, the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, announced the culprits of the incident should be prosecuted based on the law. The chairman of the board further said that prevention of irresponsible armed men from freely roaming in Maimana, re-opening of the route between Almar and Qaisar districts, arrest of one of the suspects in Balkh province, and persecution of the rest of the culprits who now have joined Taliban ranks, are the judgment of this Fact Finding Board.

Abdul Sattar Murad, the Minister of Economy, and another member of this Board, suggested to the government that 500 Afghan National Army (ANA) men should be deployed in order to increase security in Faryab province. “Government should seize all military equipment from the irresponsible armed men from the province”, further suggested Murad.

The clash between Jamiat and Junbish supporters have spilled over to Pashtun Koot and Almar districts of the province now.
