MAIMANA (SW): Security officials in northern province Faryaab said that as a result of three-day fighting between Junbesh and Jamiyat’s commanders in Almar district, 10 fighters have been killed and 18 more have been injured.

Mohammad Reza Rezayee, the spokesman for 209TH Shaheen Corps in Faryaab, told Salam Watandar that the fighting took place in Chaghatak village in Almar district which was ended when Afghan National Army Forces(ANFS) stepped in to intermediate.

Asadullah Jamali, Provincial Director for Jamiyat Islami in Faryaab, told Salam Watandar that the fighting started when Junbesh’s supporters led by Nezamuddin Qaisari attacked on Ghulam Farooq’s house, a commander linked to Jamiyat Islami, in Chaghatak village in Almar district.

He said that this attack was carried out in coordination with the militants to kill Ghulam Farooq.

He warned that if Junbesh didn’t take out its supporters from Chaghatak village, the fighting between Jamiyat Islami and Junbesh would further expand.

Nezamuddin Qaisari however said that the fighting started when pro Junbesh supporters attacked a number of displaced families who were on their way back home and who had been displaced due the recent fighting in Maimana City.

He denied the charges that the Taliban have coordinated with them.

Atta Mohammad Noor, the Acting Governor of Balkh and Chief Executive of Jamiyat Islami, releasing a statement said that Taliban attacked on Almar district in a bid to capture the district but were faced with local up-rising forces led by Ghulam Farooq Qateh, one of the top commanders linked to Jamiyat Islami.

The statement added that despite contacting NDS, Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Defense, there has not been any action to stop the fighting in the area.

Anwar Sadaat, Governor of Faryaab and one of the senior members at Junbesh Islami, in reaction to the statement released by Atta Mohammad Noor, has written on his Facebook page urging the acting governor to not hurt Faryaab at least if he couldn’t do any service to the province.
