
HERAT CITY (SW): Observers and analysts in Herat province have blamed the provincial authorities for wasting much of their time in ceremonial and symbolic meetings.
A number of commentators and citizens in the province have raised their objections in this regard saying that local officials in the province are often busy conducting “symbolic sessions” rather than providing services to citizens.
Talking to Salam Watandar, a number of analysts on political and commercial affairs noted that holding such symbolic meeting is a “waste of time”.
Mohammad Rafiq Shaher, an analyst on political affairs, noted that the officials are fooling the masses with such moves. He said that such sessions bring no benefit for people in the province.
Sumia Ramish, the member for Herat Provincial Council, while acknowledging the matter, pointed out that the officials are not available in their offices in working hours while tens of citizens wait for them all day long.
Ali Kawa, a lecture at Herat University, noted that holding sessions are significant to highlight the achievements made by the government and non government organizations, but local officials seems to be on a different agenda.
Herat citizens feel annoyed with the consistent absences the local officials on daily basis on the excuse of being busy in meetings. They urged the central government to make the local officials more accountable and dutiful.
