11/10/2016

KABUL (SW): The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has asked the mourners of the 10th Muharam, death anniversary of Imam Hussain, to cooperate with the security forces in a bid to ensure peace and security.

Thousands of citizens are likely to mark the day with processions of mourning across the country. Siddiq Siddiqui, spokesman for the MoI told Salam Watandar that security threats exist. Based on the intelligence sources, he said efforts have been made to ensure safety of the citizens on this occasion.

Siddiqui urged that the mourners to consider the fragile security situation, and cooperate with the law enforcement agencies. During Ashura procession in 2011, coordinated terrorist attacks in Kabul and Mazar-e-Sharif claimed over 50 lives.

Meanwhile, the New Line Organisation, a local civil society group has urged the citizens to donate blood for the security forces during Ashura.
