China promises support for AAF

ISLAMABAD (SW): China has expressed willingness to help and equip Afghanistan’s Air Force in fight against the common threat of terrorism.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said this during a meeting with the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on the sidelines of the Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process (HAPI) Conference in Islamabad on Wednesday. The Chinese Foreign Affairs Minister said, China and Afghanistan have a friendly history of 60-years and China wants to make its ties strong with Afghanistan.

During the meeting, he said that the participation of the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani in HAIP Conferences would help attract more international support for Afghanistan.

President Ghani thanked China for its enduring support for Afghanistan. The President highlighted Afghanistan was facing terrorism, which was a threat to the whole region. Ghani asked the Chinese Minister to help equip and train the AAF. Ghani stressed upon the need to develop railway network with China via the Wakhan Corridor.

He mentioned that Germany was willing to join hands with Afghanistan and China in the housing, and energy sector. The President urged the Chinese Minister to urge the Chinese firms that have invested in the mining sector to comply the terms and construct railway track at the Mes Aynak mining site in Logar.

Wang Yi responded positively about establishing a committee to work closely with Afghanistan and Germany for various project.

The Heart of Asia-Istanbul Process has established in 2011 and each year a HAPI Conference take place in a member country. The HAIP Conference was attended by representatives from countries like Pakistan, India, Azerbaijan, China, Iran, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and the UAE.
