KABUL(SW):President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani said today at a ceremony marking the 60 years of Sino-Afghan- friendship in Kabul that China is a catalyst for peace in Afghanistan.
The President highlighted the role China can play in bringing stability in the region and countering insurgency in Afghanistan. He said that the war in Afghanistan was a regional war that requires cooperation of China and other regional countries to handle it.
“China is a strategic partner in terms of bringing regional stability and peace in Afghanistan. We have made it clear time and again that this is a regional war.” Ghani said.
The President also said that first and foremost China can cooperate with Afghanistan and Pakistan to bring peace and secondly efforts should be made to ensure stability in the region.
Li Yuanchao, China’s Vice President, who was speaking at the event, emphasized on sustainable cooperation for Afghanistan.
“China is ready to cooperate with Afghanistan in countering terrorism and help in the peace process. We will actively work for peace in Afghanistan along with other neighboring countries.” He promised.
He said that Abdullah Abdullah, Chief Executive Officer, would soon attend Shanghai Cooperation Conference’s Session in China.
The first round of peace talks between Afghanistan and the Taliban militants was held in Islamabad, Pakistan which was facilitated by the United States, China and Pakistan. The talks however, are broken following string of terrorist attacks in Kabul.
