MAIMANA (SW): The First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum has claimed that security officials have abandoned checkpoints in northern Faryab province to the Taliban in exchange for money.
Speaking to journalists in Ghormach district late evening, the First Vice President said that legal actions would be taken against those found neglecting their duties. Taking a number of magistrates with him to Faryab, Dostum has said that those officials found guilty of negligence behind the fall of Ghormach’s brief fall should be held accountable.
The VP noted that nearly a dozen militants have been killed and 50 others wounded so far. He mentioned that as many as 15 Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) men have lost their lives and 18 others have been injured.
The VP asserted that more than 600 Pakistani-led Taliban militants are reported to have stationed in Ghormach.
In the meantime, the Afghan National Army soldiers who were seized by the Taliban complained that the authorities have neglected them in a dangerous situation. These freshly freed army soldiers stated that they were running out food and ammunition as the armed forces led by the VP launched attacks on the militants and liberated them out.
The fall of Ghormach district to the Taliban has compelled the First Vice President for the 4th time to pay urgent visit to Faryab province. Though, the Afghan National Security Forces have reclaimed major parts of Ghormach, the Taliban however still have control over some parts of the district.
