KANDAHAR (SW) – At least ten security check posts blamed for extortion of money from transporters have been removed from the Kandahar – Zabul highway.

Interim head for the Zabul police headquarters, Zabihullah Zoben, said has confirmed this.

Commenting on this, interior ministry spokesman, Nusrat Rahimi, said these check posts were removed on Friday. He added at least 12 suspects have been referred to the Attorney General’s office in this connection for investigation.

This comes a month after transporters took to the streets against extortion of money and police high-handedness on this key route between Kandahar and Kabul. The protesters claimed they are forced to pay up to AFN 30,000 per truck.
