KABUL (SW): Wais Ahmad Barmak, Minister for Interior, said on Sunday aerial celebratory shots over the weekend were also fired from the residences of parliamentarians and ministers that sparked fears in the capital city.

In connection with these incidents of aerial firings after a couple of sporting triumphs for the country abroad, the Ministry of Interior (MoI) has taken 17 people into custody. The Minister said seven security personnel are among those taken into custody for the worrisome incident.

Without naming any individual, the Minister said most incidents of aerial firings took place in the third, fourth, fifth, tenth, eleventh and seventeenth police districts in the city, Wais Ahmad Barmak told journalists that the police force would vigilantly monitor the situation 48 hours ahead of any such sporting events that might led to repeat of the situation Kabul residents faced over the weekend.

Two days ago, Afghanistan’s Mixed-Martial Arts (MMA) fighters Baz Mohammad Mubarez and Ahmad Wali Hotak beat their rivals from Ukraine and Scotland in a match held in the United Arab Emirates that was celebrated with aerial gun shots in Kabul causing fears and unrest.
