KABUL (SW) – A number of former government officials told a moot on national unity that a case has been lodged against discriminatory remarks made by former governmental adviser, Haleem Tanveer.
Addressing the moot, Mohammad Ameen Ahmadi, president of the Ibn-e-Sina University, said the remarks made by Haleem Tanveer, a former adviser at the Ministry of Information and Cultural Affairs, are against the spirit of national unity, and that is why a case has been lodged at the Supreme Court.
Ahmadi said the use of racist remarks have led to targeting of an ethnic group in the country. He stressed such a vocabulary should be replaced with remarks of justice and tolerance.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohammad Ali Mohammadi, former adviser to President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, said Haleem Tanveer’s remarks amount to a crime. He said the Supreme Court has tasked a team to probe the matter. He hoped this would not be a mere tactical move.
Earlier this month, in a gathering to mark the services of Mohammad Gul Khan Momand, the former MoIC adviser, Haleem Tanveer said he would marry off ethnic Hazara girls to Pashtun boys if he got the authority. This sparked an outrage with many blaming him of disregard to a certain ethnic group.
However, Haleem Tanveer defended his remarks saying these were meant to promote harmony among various ethnic groups.
