Campaign launched against police high-handedness

17/06/2019

KABUL (SW) – Following multiple viral videos about police’s abusive behavior towards citizens, a social media campaign has begun against this attitude.

A number of activists behind this social media movement told Salam Watandar their main motive is to expose such illegal activities and misuse of power by police. They said the police force is not properly trained on matters related to dealing with the public.

The activists said so many citizens across the country have faced the police high-handedness.

We wished to have the views of the Ministry of Interior, but to no avail.

However, Zabihullah Nazimi, head of teachings at the police academy in Kabul, said in this regard that the policemen are indeed educated on human rights and on behavior towards the public during their training. He added that some policemen do not properly attend training sessions that might result in such incidents.

This comes on top of multiple media reports about police’s mistreatment of the civilians, but the MoI seems failed to improve the situation.
