KABUL (SW) The election campaign for 2019 presidential polls officially commences on Sunday, the Independent Election Commission announced on Saturday.
Abdul Aziz Ibrahimi, spokesman for the IEC, told Salam Watandar the commission has also outlined expenditure rules for the candidates. He added the campaign would continue for two months, which would be followed by a 48-hour reflection period for voters.
Meanwhile, a number of analysts believe widespread rigging and technical glitches in the past elections have hampered peoples’ trust in the process.
Two such analysts, Kabul Khan and Faruq Bashar, said the people not only have lack of trust in the elections, but they fear a repeat of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) elections. They said many voters believe their say has no worth, and the candidates secure power through other means.
It is worth mentioned no candidate has the right to spent more than AFN 442 million on his election campaign.
