KABUL (SW) – The landmark ceasefire declared by the government and the Taliban has received widespread praises from different segments of the society.
A number of civil society activists, religious scholars and youth leaders hailed the move at a press conference here on Sunday. Umar Yaqubi, civil activist, said on the occasion war among Muslims has no legitimacy hence the ceasefire announced by the warring sides should be enforced permanently.
Speaking on the occasion, Mir Hussain Shah Nasiri, religious scholar, pinned hope these positive moves by the government and the Taliban would pave way for sustainable peace in the country and an end to differences. Representing the High Peace Council, Ameenuddin Muzafari, said this body is ready to facilitate permanent ceasefire in the country.
The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan on Thursday announced ceasefire from the 27th of Ramadan until the fifth day of Eid-ul-Fitr. This was followed by a three-day ceasefire announced by the Taliban on Saturday for the three days of Eid-ul-Fitr.
