JALALABAD (SW): A blast caused by explosives hidden in a motorcycle claimed four lives in Jalalabad, Nangarhar province on Monday.
Attaullah Khogyani, spokesman for the provincial governor, informed Salam Watandar that the blast took place close to the Afghan – Turk school in the first police district in Jalalabad city. He said a political rally organized by the Hezb-e-Islami party was underway in the vicinity of the attack.
Addressing the gathering, HI chief, Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, said the current government had not been formed on peoples’ choice, but engineered by the former U.S. secretary of state John Kerry. He also grilled parliamentarians for their alleged corruption.
Commenting on the electoral affairs, Hekmatyar said steps should be taken to ensure all citizens, including refugees and displaced persons can vote, otherwise polls should be delayed for the purpose. He also hailed the government’s unprecedented peace offer to the Taliban.
Speaking on the occasion, Gulab Mangal, governor of Nangarahr, urged upon the Taliban to shun violence, and join peace process.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast.
