ISLAMABAD (SW): Pakistan said on Thursday it is up to the Afghan government to decide how to proceed on with the vital agreement signed for security cooperation between the two countries.
In weekly press briefing, Qazi Khalilluah, Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) said that Pakistan has taken decisive action against all terror groups in North Waziristan without discrimination.
Earlier in May this year, Pakistan’s Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) and its Afghan counterpart National Directorate of Security (NDS) signed an accord for cooperation, aimed at bolstering fight against terrorism.
Under the agreement, the two intelligence agencies would cooperate in counter-terrorism operations. An essential element of the accord is a provision for joint probe of the terrorism suspects. The ISI would also equip the NDS and train its personnel.
The first-of-its-kind deal between the two intelligence agencies followed a landmark visit by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif along with Army Chief Gen Raheel Sharif and ISI Chief Lt Gen Rizwan Akhtar to Kabul during which the Pakistan government denounced Taliban and said that future violence by the militant group would be treated as terrorism.
String of terror attacks in Afghanistan, particularly in the capital Kabul however, has undermined the potential of ISI-NDS pact as Kabul hold Islamabad responsible for promoting terror in Afghanistan.
Qazi Khalilullah said the purpose of the MoU signed between the two spy agencies was to enhance coordination between the security agencies of the two countries in dealing with the problems of security and terrorism.
