PUL-I-KHUMRI (SW) – The Baghlan University has turned into frontline of clashes between the Afghan security forces and the Taliban, locals said.
Fawzia Walizada, chairperson for the faculty of arts, told Salam Watandar the security forces have established bastions at the BU after surge in clashes in the Baladori area of the Pul-i-Khumri. A number of students such as Javed and Farkhunda, said the armed clashes around the university premises have spread fear and unrest among them. They said the constant fear of deadly clashes mean they cannot focus on their studies, and always think about their safety.
Acknowledging the grimness of the issue, Ali Reza Safadi, interim head of the Baghlan University, said the provincial governor has been approached to resolve the matter. He said the governor has been urged to relocate the security forces from the university premises in a bid to ensure safety as well as sanity of the university.
The faculties of journalism, arts, engineering, economy and agriculture of the BU are stationed in the restive Baladori and Poza Eshan areas.
