KUNDUZ CITY (SW): This year only 20 thousand students from northern Kunduz city have enrolled in school due to insecurity.
Rustam Khan Akbari, Acting head of Education Department in the Kunduz said that they would expect 30 thousand new students to enroll in schools this year but due to insecurity and displacements, only 20 thousand have enrolled.
The new academic year began in Kunduz with the probable fear that the province could collapse to the militants once again.
A number of students in the province expressed their disdains towards the fighting, which continue to take place between the security forces and the militants in the province.
Ahmad a student of 3rd grade in Shairkhan School, said that he wished that the fighting could end so that he could study with peaceful mind.
“The fighting did not allow us to go to school and properly study in the class”.

The Acting Head of Education Department in the province, said that all 497 schools in the center and other districts in the province have been opened to the students but due to insecurity and displacement, out 30 thousand students who were expected to enroll only 20 thousand have enrolled.
He said that many schools have no proper buildings, which is a challenge the education is faced with in the province.
He added that many students study under the tents or open spaces but they would soon build 47 school buildings in the current year
Asadullah Omarkheyl, Governor of Kunduz, has assured the students and the residents that the province would never again fell to the militants.
