PUL-I-KHMRI (SW): Film makers in Baghlan province have been irked by the government’s inaction towards rebuilding the only cinema hall here that was demolished years ago.
Qudratullah Tagabi, one of the film directors in the province, told Salam Watandar they are left with only one option, and that is to screen films in the hall of provincial administration which means tight security and unprofessional projection. He added the film directors have been visiting different government offices for years for the sake of rebuilding the cinema hall.
The main public cinema in Baghlan was demolished by the provincial authorities citing the reason that the cinema was on a main road, and causing traffic issues.
Farhad Wahdat, another film maker, stressed that the government should either rebuild the demolished cinema, or provide a suitable alternative place.
Local literary figures also lament the fact that the local government is least interested in providing quality entertainment and information to the people via cinema. Syed Mohammad Ahmadi, a professor at the Baghlan University, feared that the land originally allocated for cinema would soon be encroached upon. He blamed the provincial department of culture and information for the prevailing situation.
Meanwhile, Sifr Mohammad, mayor of the Pul-i-Khumri city, has vowed to rebuild the cinema soon.
