QALA-E-NAU (SW) – The rampant and illegal extraction of natural herbs in Badghes province has posed serious threats to the industry of traditional medicines.
Locals informed Salam Watandar illegal cutting of the herbs has surged significantly in recent days. They warned if this practice remained uncheck, the province would lose its precious herbs forever, and there would be no herbs for traditional medicine.
The locals informed unknown people are encouraging rampant cutting of herbs by paying AFN 40 per kilo for fresh herbs.
Abdul Raees Baik, chairman of the provincial council, said in this regard that the illegal extraction of herbs is worrying. Though, Mohammad Mirwais, head of the provincial chapter of the National Environment Protection Agency, vowed to take stern actions against illegal cutting of herbs. But, he asserted poverty is forcing the locals to engage in this activity.
