KABUL (SW) – Dr. Kenneth M. Holland, President of the American University of Afghanistan, on Tuesday renewed call for the release of two senior faculty members under the custody of the militants for the past two years.

Two senior professors of the AUAF, 62-year-old American Kevin King and 50-year-old Australian Tim Weeks, remain in the Taliban custody since their kidnapping from the capital Kabul in August 2016.

Highlighting the services of these two professors towards promotion of education in Afghanistan, Dr. Holland said these two men came to Afghanistan out of respect for humanity, and had no other agenda. He said the videos of Professor King and Professor Weeks circulated by the Taliban last year indicate the two are in critical health state.

The AUAF president said the Haqqani Network of the Taliban are demanding release of their captives for the release of the two professors. He added the AUAF respects the Afghan government’s decision on this matter.

The U.S. government has announced a prize of $ one million for any information leading to the release of the two men.
