GHAZNI (SW): The Taliban’s involvement in recruiting teachers and their ongoing monitoring of schools in some districts of the province has always been the subject of discussion; but this time, students from the schools in the district of Khwaja Omari, 25 km from Ghazni city, said to Salam Watandar that the annual test of the student’s of the schools in this district started on 20 Aqrab (11 November) of this year by the order of the Taliban.
According to the students, the Taliban were involved in most of schools’ affairs, and all their orders were followed by the schools’ officials.
Hasan Raza Yousufi, Secretary of the Ghazni Provincial Council also said that in most districts of the province, the Taliban rules were followed, and the district schools were under the control of this group.
According to Yousufi, based on the Ministry of Education’s scheduled time, the annual primary school examination should have started today; but in six districts of Ghazni, even the annual exams of the high schools have already ended by the order of Taliban.
“In most districts, high school exams were over, for example, Zan Khan, Gillan, Moqur, and even Jighatu which is in 15 km distance from the city of Ghazni, have passed their exams”, he said.
However, Nisar Ahmad Azadzoi, deputy teaching assistant of the Ministry of Education in Ghazni said that they are still unaware of this.
According to him, he will soon be informed of the status of these schools and will also share the findings with the media.
Azadzoi added that the only exams of schools in Nawur and Ajristan districts were conducted early due to cold weather, and the exams for the middle and high schools are scheduled to begin on the first day of the Qaws month (23 November).
Concerns about the widespread presence of the Taliban in a number of districts in Ghazni and their involvement in the education affairs at schools have been repeatedly raised; but officials have not paid much attention to this issue so far.
