KABUL (SW) – Acting foreign minister Mohammad Haneef Atmar has said the prison swap with the Taliban would be completed next week.
He was speaking at a moot organized by the US Institute of Peace. Speaking on the occasion, Atmar said with the release of these400 ‘dangerous’ Taliban, the number of free insurgents would reach to 5600. He urged the Taliban leadership to abide by their commitments towards the peace deal and not send the freed insurgents to the fighting.
This comes the government halted the freeing of Taliban inmates after freeing some 80 of the 400 ‘dangerous’ Taliban charged with serious crimes.
A day earlier, Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman High Council for National Reconciliation, said the intra-Afghan talks with Taliban will begin next week. He said this addressing a moot organized by the Institute of War and Peace Studies in the capital Kabul.
