TALOQAN (SW): Illegal armed men affiliated to Mullah Piramkol, an influential leader of an armed group in northern Takhar province have fired rockets at a protest rally in the Rustaq district leading to the death of one boy.
A local resident in the district said that as many as 7 people have been wounded in this attack. The residents staged a demonstration in connection with the fighting, which took place between supporters of Mullah Piramkol and Ainuddin Rustaqi, a former member of the provincial council.
The protestors were demanding the government to probe the murder of Ainuddin Rustaqi few months back.
The protestors charge that Piramkol’s armed men have fired as many as 16 rockets to disperse the protestors.
Dr. Hafizullah Safi, Head of Public Health Department in Takhar, said that two of the injured people have been shifted to Taluqan hospital. Safi added that one of the wounded, a 17 years old boy, have passed away in the hospital and the other’s condition is also critical.
Salam Watandar’s provincial correspondent reported that 3 to 4 hundred gunmen affiliated to Piramkol attacked the Rustaq district, and they have now taken full control of the area.
A security source in the district also confirmed the incident and told Salam Watandar that the whole district, except the district chief’s office, is under the control of these illegal armed men.
