Armed commander kidnaps civilians in Wardak

MAIDAN CITY (SW): A local armed commander has kidnapped 11 civilians from a local community in Maidan Wardak province after the Taliban abducted 9 members of a football team.

According to the details, at least 9 athletes of a football team were kidnapped by Taliban in Jalriz district. Hours after the kidnapping, Alipoor, a local commander took 11 hostages from the local community in retaliation.

Abdul Rahman Mangal, the provincial governor’s spokesperson told Salam Watandar that the Taliban kidnapped the athletes late Tuesday evening from Noor Mohammad Khan area of the district. According to the spokesperson, the athletes were traveling from Maidan City towards Jalriz. He said efforts are underway to release the boys.

Sharifullah Hotak, provincial council member, while confirming the incident said that hours after the kidnapping, a local commander took 11 residents as hostage.

Meanwhile, Hussein Ali Baligh, another provincial council member has rejected the involvement of Alipoor in this incident. The Taliban have not confirmed their involvement.
