LASHKARGAH (SW): As many as 800 fresh troops from the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) have reached southern Helmand’s restive Naad-e-Ali district to flush the rebels out for good.
Umar Zwak, spokesman for the provincial governor told Salam Watandar that the fresh troops comprises of men from the Afghan National Army (ANA), Afghan National Police (ANP), the National Directorate of Security (NDS) and the Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP).
These forces would also have the support of commando forces and aerial support from the allied forces.
Zwak noted that a number of Taliban militants have reached to the district in a bid to overrun it.
About the advancement of the Taliban, the spokesman said that the ANSF have tactically vacated some areas in a bid to avoid civilian casualties.
Zwak stated that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) conducted some night raids last night and killed as many as 40 armed rebels in Naad-e-Ali and Marja districts. He confirmed that 5 ANSF men have lost lives in fighting during the past five days. Hundreds of locals have left these areas due to insecurity.
