ALP men deprived of proper food in Kunduz

11/10/2017

KUNDUZ CITY (SW): A number of Afghan Local Police (ALP) men and their commanders have lamented that they are not provided with proper food for the past six months.

A number of ALP men told Salam Watandar on condition of anonymity that they have only received sacks of rice in ration. As per rules, each soldier has a monthly food quote of 31 eggs, nine kilogram of potato, one kilogram of onion and 7.5 kilogram of fruit.

Toryal Kakar, deputy chairman for the provincial council, has confirmed these reports. He, however, sighed that the contractors supplying food items to the security forces are not answerable to the provincial authorities as they have inked contracts with the Ministry of Interior (MoI) in Kabul.

Khalilullah Ziaey, commander of the Afghan National Police (ANP) in the northeastern zone, said in this regard that the contractors are least bothered about the plight of the soldiers, and are more focused on their monetary gains. He said the issue has been discussed with the MoI, and authorities have assured of action.

A while ago, a more tragic tale in this connection emerged from Faryab province’s Ghormach district where soldiers under the siege of the Taliban ate rotten food to survive.
