AIHRC pronounces the attack on protestors as war crime

KABUL (SW): The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) on Sunday pronounced attack on peaceful protestors at Deh Mazang in Kabul as war crime.

In a press conference here, the AIHRC strongly condemned brazen attack on the ‘Enlightenment Movement’ that claimed 81 lives and left more than 200 people wounded.

 Sima Samar, head of the AIHRC said on the occasion that such barbaric mass killing of innocent people corresponds to war crimes in line with the Article 8 of the International Criminal Court. She urged upon the government to bring the culprits to justice.

The AIHRC head noted that the Afghan government can seek the help of the International Court of Justice to execute the criminals behind the Saturday’s attack.

“Killing of civilian in yesterday’s attack is an a crime against humanity according to the Article 8 of the International Court of Justice, perpetrators of this attack should be brought to justice”, she urged.

Commenting on this, Shah Hussain Murtazavi, deputy presidential spokesman told Salam Watandar that the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has constituted a commission to probe the incident.

“The President has tasked the Attorney General Office that has members of representatives of the human rights commission, security organs and protestor to investigate the incident”, he noted.
