WARSAW (SW): The Afghan delegation headed by the President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani met a number of heads of states and government on the sidelines of NATO’s Warsaw Summit on July 8 and 9 to discuss prospects for peace and economic uplift.
The exclusive group meetings were held with the delegations of the US, the EU, Poland, Canada, Azerbaijan, Holland and other NATO member and allied states. In these meetings, matters related to security, economic uplift and sustainability of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) were top of the agenda.
In his speech during the session on Afghanistan on Saturday, President Ghani expressed hope for a clear signal of support for the heroic deeds of the Afghan soldiers and the hopes and aspirations of the people in Afghanistan. “With your resolute support, we will redouble our efforts to create a democratic constitutional order and an accountable and effective state that can bring peace to our people and secure our future from the menace of terrorism”, he said.
He regretted that despite clear commitments to a quadrilateral peace process, Pakistan’s ‘dangerous distinction’ between good and bad terrorists is being maintained in practice.
A day earlier, Ilham Aliyev, President of Azerbaijan assured Ghani of his closer ties and cooperation in different sectors. President Aliyev pledged to provide technical support for the Afghan Air Force (AAF).
Ghani invited the Azeri business community to take advantage of conducive environment for trade, particularly in cotton production in the western Herat province.
