ABP men deprived of proper food ration in Kunar

25/11/2017

ASAD ABAD (SW): Members of the Afghan Border Police (ABP) in Kunar’s Sarakanoo district claim they have not received proper food ration for more than six months.

Two such ABP men, who wished not to be named, told Salam Watandar they are faced with the shortage of food items in the Nawa Pass area of the district bordering Pakistan’s Momand Agency. They went on to say the government officials promised to address their issues, but no action has been taken so far.

The ABP men lamented that they are serving the nation on a high altitude zero point, but the government is not taking proper care of their needs.

Idrees Momand, spokesman for the ABP in the east, told SW that a change of guards has taken place there, and efforts are underway to dispatch items of needs to all the units on the zero point as soon as possible.

All four informal crossing points with Pakistan via Kunar are closed now due to prevailing security situation. Two months ago, five ABP men were killed and one wounded by the militants as they went to fetch some drinking water from their base in Kunar’s Ghakai Pass to across the Durand Line.
