KABUL (SW): President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani hinted on Monday that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) would soon be equipped with even more fighter aircrafts.
Ghani said this after inaugurating the new complex of the Ministry of Defense. Without going into the details about ways to strengthen the AAF, the President while thanking India for its support said that the fourth Mi-25 helicopter promised by New Delhi would soon land in Afghanistan. Ghani also thanked the NATO nations for their enduring support.
About the peace process, the President stressed that no one is going to gift peace to Afghanistan but it was the fundamental right of the Afghans that would definitely be acquired.
A day earlier, Pakistan’s Army Chief Gen. Raheel Sharif visited Kabul and held talks with President Ghani, Chief Executive Officer Abdullah Abdullah and Gen. John Campbell, Commander of the Resolute Support Mission and United States Forces in Afghanistan.
It was reportedly agreed to reengage in peace talks with the willing Taliban. Pakistan has assured Afghanistan of its assistance in this regard while China and the U.S. remain observers in the process.
During his speech, Ghani praised the bravery and commitment of the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) and vowed his government’s full commitment towards their welfare.
Mohammad Masoum Stanikzai, the Interim Minister of Defense said on the occasion that candid attention has been paid to improve the skills, capabilities and command of the armed forces. He thanked the U.S for the new complex. Costing some $ 160 million, the new 5-story complex can accommodate over a thousand officials of the MoD.
