KABUL (SW) – The Taliban staged more than three thousand attacks across Afghanistan since signing peace deal with the US, officials said on Sunday.
Tareq Aryan, spokesman for the interior ministry, said during a joint press conference that in last one week alone, the Taliban killed and wounded 422 security forces in some 222 attacks in 29 provinces. He added the recent killing of the religious scholars in Kabul is part of a fresh wave of terror by the Taliban. Aryan said the motive behind these attacks is to mount pressure on the people and government.
In the meantime, spokesman for the National Security Council, Javed Faisal said the Taliban have intensified their attacks following a brief truce during Eid. He added the Afghan forces are back in defensive posture since Eid in a bid to support the peace process.
This comes amid rejuvenated efforts to start intra-Afghan peace talks between the government and the Taliban.
