KABUL (SW) – Supporters of Stability and Partnership team by Abdullah Abdullah took to streets in the capital, Kabul on Friday against alleged vote fraud and irregularities in the presidential polls.
The Stability and Partnership team led by presidential candidate Abdullah had called for a march to protest against alleged vote fraud and electoral irregularities.
As the demonstrations began, most of the capital's roads were closed to traffic.
The protesters marched from various parts of the capital this morning to the Pashtunistan Square near the Presidency. They demanded cancellation of some 300,000 controversial votes, which they say are fake. Protesters said that the recount process is unacceptable to them.
Babar Farahmand, the proposed vice president of the Stability and Partnership team, told protesters that if their demands were not accepted by the Independent Election Commission, their demonstrations would begin in other provinces on Saturday.
Asadullah Saadati, the proposed second vice president of the Stability and partnership, said: "There is still a chance for the IEC to return to the law and electoral rules, otherwise the fraudsters and supporters would end up in prison."
The protesters called for the immediate cancellation of 300,000 allegedly void votes. They warned that if their demands are not accepted, they will utilize all legal avenues for justice.
The IEC has not yet responded to today's protests.
