HCP casts doubts over Pakistan’s will to bring peace to Afghanistan

KABUL (SW): The High Peace Council (HCP) has casted doubts over Pakistan’s will to help bring peace in Pakistan.

In connection with the forthcoming Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG)’s forthcoming meeting in Pakistan, the HPC has said that Pakistan has lost its credibility in the international arena in terms of keeping promises.

A day earlier, Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry stated that the fifth round of QCG talks would be held later this month.

While commenting on this, Abdul khabeer Ochqoon, deputy director HPC said that it would have been much better had Pakistan shared with the world information about steps it has taken to prove Islamabad’s action for peace in Afghanistan. He underlined that if Pakistan fulfills its promise and brings the armed rebels to the negotiation table, the HPC would be more than willing to join the talks.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, while addressing the The Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) in London on Friday, criticized Pakistan for taking action against terrorist on its soil that are involved in fueling violence in Afghanistan. Occhqoon added that it is very difficult to trust Pakistan now.

A number of analysts agree with this notion.

Waheed Muzhda, an expert of military affairs, told Salam Watandar that Pakistan is under immense pressure particularly from the US. He noted that the Pak-US ties are not as good as they once were hence Pakistan is seeking to prove its worth in regard to peace and stability in Afghanistan.

In his views, such talks remain fruitless regardless of the time it consumes as Pakistan remains unwilling to bring peace in Afghanistan.
