KABUL (SW) – President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani on Wednesday stressed the forthcoming presidential polls would go ahead as planned.
He said this addressing the ‘Fifth Annual EU Anti-Corruption Conference, A Journey to Peace, a Moment of Accountability’ at the presidency. He stressed a peace deal should not increase Afghanistan’s dependency on other countries. He underlined the significance of Afghanistan self-reliance. President Ghani stressed the future of the country should not be compromised for personal gains.
Meanwhile, Pierre Mayaudon, Ambassador and Head of European Union Delegation in Afghanistan, said on the occasion accountability is it at the Core of Sustainable Peace.
The European Union urged the warring sides in Afghanistan on Tuesday the attacks such as the one that took place in Ghazni on Sunday, killing and injuring innocent civilians, must be confined to the past.
“The intra-Afghan Dialogue that concluded yesterday in Doha, Qatar, marks an important step towards achieving the peace the people of Afghanistan deserve and have long demanded”, it said in a statement.
