GHOR (SW) – The Taliban rebels have chopped off fruit trees and torhced homes of the pro-government people in Ghor province.
Residents of the Dawlat Yaar district told Salam Watnadar the Taliban committed these crimes after overrunning villages in Samak area of the district. The residents said the Taliban also forced them to pay religious tax. They were chanting ‘takbeer’ while chopping off the trees deemed as the ‘infidels’ asset’, the locals said.
Abdul Hameed Natiqi, member of the provincial council, said the Taliban started causing troubles for the locals when the security and defence forces halted their operations following heavy snowfall. He added the Taliban are forcing the locals to handover the arms provided to them by the government.
However, Shah Agha Shatab, provincial police chief, said he has not received any such reports. He confirmed the security forces could not launch clean-up operation in the Samak area of Dawlat Abad district due to heavy snowfall.
He vowed soon a clean-up operation would be launched in the restive parts of the province.
According to the locals, the Taliban have strong presence and influence in the Samak area located at some 15 km from the center of Dawlat Abad district.
