KABUL (SW): The matter of corruption allegedly committed by the speaker and secretary of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house) on Monday resurfaced in the house.
First deputy speaker Humayoun Humayoun, who was presiding the session, said that the house’s fact-finding commission had decided to refer the dossier of the secretary to the Attorney General’s Office, but the secretary remains sitting in the WJ unmoved. He boycotted the session in protest.
In the meantime, Irfanullah Irfan, deputy secretary of the house, who also head the joint commission of the two houses to probe the allegations of corruption, said the fact-finding commission has committed to no mistake, and it has referred the matter to the AGO with eight points. He added the AGO has asked for official stamps on the documents referred to it, and the house has done so.
Previously, it was said the dossier of speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi, and secretary Khudai Nazar Nusrat, would be referred to the AGO. But, Irfan said today the whole house needs to decide on it not just a commission or the administrative board.
The two men are charged with embezzlement of AFN 50 million while the speaker has also pledged to return the money.
