KABUL (SW): A Wolesi Jirga (lower house) fact-finding commission has announced its findings into the corruption charges levelled against the speaker Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi and secretary Khudai Nazar Nusrat.
Announcing the results, Irfanullah Irfan, head of the commission and deputy speaker, said that their findings have proved that Ibrahimi embezzled up to AFN 5.3 million from the kitty of the house and used it for decorating his private residence. The commission directed Ibrahimi to return the money. In regard to the secretary of the house, the commission convicted Nusrat for misuse of power and engaging in shady activities, and demanded suspending his post and referring the matter to the Attorney General’s Office.
Speaker of the house Abdul Rauf Ibrahimi acknowledged the verdict, and vowed to comply by it.
The commission also proposed imposing 10 to 15 day ban on deputy speaker Humayoun humayoun, members Lalay Hameedzay and Obaidullah Barakazay for violating the norms of the house in a previous session. These men have been charged with forcing their way into the archives of the WJ. The commission also slapped sanctions against the officials at the archives section of the house.
The house endorsed the verdict by the commission, and members agreed not to debate this matter anymore.
