SHEBERGHAN (SW): As academic year for schools starts on Wednesday in Jawzjan province, Daesh rebels shut down 75 schools in Qosh Tapa and Darz Aab districts.
Local officials in Jawzjan said Daesh has warned families of students that they will prevent their children from going to school. According to them, more than 26 thousand male and female students were enrolled in these schools.
Halima Sadaf Karimi, a provincial council member, told Salam Watandar that the Daesh group, having created more than 50 checkpoints, told government employees and teachers to submit all their privileges and bank cards to this group. This member of the Jawzjan provincial council said currently 80 per cent of Qash Tapa and Darz Aab districts are under the Daesh control.
Rahmatullah Hashar, the former chief of Darz Aab, stated that the Daesh rebels present in key areas of Qosh Tapa and Darz Aab districts have warned teachers and students to abstain going to school.
Abdul Hai Yashin, the provincial director of education, confirming the news said Daesh rebels announced to shut 47 schools in Darz Aab and 28 schools in Qosh Tapa districts on Monday. He assured that tribal elders are trying to reopen the schools.
The Daesh group has not commented on the matter yet.
Based on the information provided by the provincial directorate of education, out of 75 schools which Daesh closed down in the two districts, 31 schools are for girls and 44 for boys while 780 educators teach at these schools.
