QAL-I-NAW (SW): Seven policemen in Badghis province have been arrested on charges of selling arms to the Taliban insurgents.
Provincial authorities have said the technical officer, head of ammunition department and five other members of the police have been arrested for selling rounds of AK47 to the Taliban insurgents.
Zahir Bahand, provincial governor’s spokesman, told Salam Watandar, the men were caught red-handed this morning. “The sold rounds are being used by the insurgents in attacks on the security forces”, added Bahand.
According to the spokesman, the culprits have sold at least 75 thousand different rounds of ammunition to the rebels in the past six months by forging documents.
Abdul Rauf Taj, the provincial police chief, confirming the arrests, said the 7 policemen and one civilian have been arrested who have been selling ammunition to the militants since 5 years. “The civilian is a Kabul-resident who was facilitating the deals with the Taliban. The arrested culprits have confessed to their crime”, informed Taj.
